Young Artists: Art & People (ages 8 – 10)

Monday, July 3 – Friday, July 7, 2017

9 AM – 4 PM

Students spend a week investigating how they can use drawing, collage, painting, and sculpture to represent the human form. In this Young Artists class, each lesson starts with a close investigation of figurative artworks in the Museum’s permanent collection, where students interpret their own meanings of the work. Students will create artworks in the studio that represent people they know from their lives as well as famous and historic figures from our past. Cost: $250.

Teacher: Adam Farcus is the William R. Hollingsworth Fellow in Engagement and Learning at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Farcus’ classes and their personal artwork asks people to become engaged and rigorous investigators of the world around them. They have hold an MFA in studio art from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a BFA in painting and drawing from Illinois State University. Their work has been exhibited at numerous venues, including Vox Populi, Philadelphia; the American University Museum, and A+D Gallery, Columbia College, Chicago. They have lectured on their work at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Performance Studies International 16 conference, among many others.
