Studio Session: Working with Scale (3D Mixed Media)

Class Description: From small to large scale projects, this afternoon class will challenge students to work in a variety of scales using 3D media. Projects will be inspired by works in Picturing Mississippi, and will allow students to work independently and experiment with new materials and processes of making art.  At the end of the week, Isabel Gray, the Director of Learning and School Programs, will help advise students with the application process of the annual Scholastic Arts and Writing Contest.  Cost: $175.

 

Teacher: Emily Simmons is a graduate of Millsaps College, with a Bachelor of Art degree in Art History with a concentration in Museum Studies and a minor in Studio Art. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Education in Art Education with a concentration on Museum Education from the University of Nebraska, Kearney. Emily served as the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s  Arts Educator from 2015 to 2017. Prior to becoming MCM Arts Educator, Emily served as MCM Volunteer Coordinator, as well as an intern for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and an intern for the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. She has more than five years of experience working in art galleries, including Brown’s Fine Art and Framing.  As an artist, Emily’s exhibitions and publications include the Mississippi Light Festival; Editor’s choice in Stylus, the Millsaps College Literature and Arts Publication; Wells Fest Art Night; Ko’ox Boon Art Auction; as well as Best in Show and Honorable Mention in Millsaps College Student Art Show. After volunteering with the Friends of the USA International Ballet Competition (IBC) for many years, Emily currently serves as Junior Membership Coordinator on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the USA IBC and is serving as the Participant Coordinator for the 2018 competition.

 

No refunds within 30 days of class start date.   Museum reserves right to cancel class 10 days prior if minimum student registration is not met.  In the event of cancellation, tuition will be fully refunded.
