Studio II (ages 14 - 17) Ceramics and Hand Building

Monday, July 3 – Friday, July 7, 2017

9 AM – 4 PM

Students work with clay to learn coil and slab hand building techniques. Students create both small and more involved sculptural pieces, spanning multiple days. Projects include making vessels as well as sculptural objects. Students’ works will be fired on-site in the Museum’s own kiln. Throughout the week, students also spend time in the Museum’s galleries learning about the work of Mississippi sculptors. Cost: $275. Click here to register.

Teacher: daniel johnson is the Director of Engagement and Learning at the Mississippi Museum of Art. johnson is a socially-engaged artist who pulls from all mediums to design projects which work with communities for capacity building and problem solving. He has performed and organized group actions as part of commissions and fellowships for Alternate ROOTS in Asheville, North Carolina; the C3 series at the Mississippi Museum of Art; and in partnership with the Mississippi Development Authority and Midtown Partners in Jackson. johnson received his bachelor’s degree in studio art from Millsaps College and spent 8 years working at the Wolfe Fine Art Studio before coming to work at the Museum.
